SRINAGAR, JULY 01 Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah expressed his happiness when, after 20 years of occupation by security forces, the Nigeen Club, having heritage value, was taken over by the State government and inaugurated today. The inauguration started with the sacred Sofiyana Qalam of great Sufi saint, SheikhulAlam Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA).

Established on the bank of famed and picturesque Nigeen Lake, the very ambience of Nigeen Club is enormously attractive. As an icing on the cake recently upgraded infrastructure and state- of- the- art facilities provide ample amusement and entertainment to the club visitors of not just the valley but outside too.

About The Club

Backwards into Time: It is not as if something completely new has come up in the city. The club has a history to stand on. In the year 1900, Nigeen Club was constructed by British on the orchard land owned by the Deewan family, after being en snarled by the supreme beauty of the lake. They used it as a recreational centre and later built a guest house adjacent to it in 1940, wherein the British Residents used to stay. The British would spend their leisure time in the club, playing cards and other games. This was it then. After the British Phase of history came to end, structures and institution set up by them passed onto to the indigenous hands. Going by the information provided by the Tourist Officer Nigeeen Club, Mr. Javed Iqbal, Department of Tourism purchased the stretch of land from Asha- e- Bagh Bridge to the Club fence.
